Blacksmith Bulk Orders Deed System:
Quick Nav: [How To]
[Rewards]
[F.A.Q.]
[Updates]
ver wish you could make more money from pounding out breastplates, katanas, colored armour, and more? Well UO has stepped
up to the plate with Bulk Orders. One of the main problems with gaining skills in UO is the repetitive nature of making
new things to gain the next .1 of skill, but you get little value out of it. No one wants to buy a set of armour from a
blacksmith with only 70 skill points. Everyone wants GM armour, or colored armour, or dragon armour, or, well you get the idea.
The idea behind Bulk Orders is pretty good. Have Blacksmiths go out and find an order they can fill. The player gets a deed,
fills it, returns it and gets some profit. The harder the order is to complete, the better the return will be. The more skill
you have, the better the return.
Bulk Order Deeds ask for all sorts of things to make in varying quantities. Depending on the skill your blacksmith has will
give you a chance at receiving different types of deeds. 70 real points of blacksmithing or less will get you a basic small
deed, having 70.1 or higher skill gives you better deeds and the chance at getting Large Bulk Order Deeds, but you still may
end up getting an order for 10 daggers, its all random.
Once you fill up your bulk order by making the requested items you can turn it in for a reward. The rewards vary in exactly what
you will get, but it always consists of fame, gold, and a special item. This gives blacksmiths the ability to finally gain fame
with out going out and monster slaying and gives them an additional income source, so you don't have to pedal your wares. There's
More information on how rewards given below, so keep reading!
How to obtain and use a BOD:
The first step in obtaining a bulk order deed is to simple go sell stuff to
an NPC blacksmith, found in many of the towns across Britania. I recommend to either sell them kindling, which can be found by
taking a dagger to any nearby tree, or selling iron ingots. These provide the cheapest method of getting a bulk order deed. It
does not matter what you sell, selling a valorite tunic or a mace from an ogre won't get you any better deeds than selling kindling
or iron ingots. Furthermore, the NPC should ask you to "help them out" within selling 20 items. It doesn't happen the first time
so you don't want to go selling a bunch of expensive items to get a random chance at a deed.
When the NPC offers you a bulk order deed the details of the deed are given to you, the type of items requested, and how they are
to be made (exceptional, type of ingots, and quantity). At this point you can accept or decline the request, if you decline it
you won't be able to get another deed until your timelimit expires (more on this in a bit). Once you accept the request a grey
deed will appear in your pack (looks like any other deed in the game except colored light grey).
Now, I have mentioned the timelimit. If you have 70.1 (real skill) you
will have to wait six real time hours (as in not game hours) before you are given another chance to get a deed. Below 70.1
varies a bit. From 50.1 to 70.0 skill you have to wait 2 hours, below that you have to wait just one hour. I can see all the
GM's out there going 'WHAT', don't worry the deeds given to people under 70.1 skill are not as good as the ones given to those
above 70.1, and some deeds given to those at 70.1 skill can't be done by them (ie. a guy with 70.1 skill has no chance of making
exceptional platemail).
There are two types of deeds a blacksmith can get. The basic deed that asks
for a certain number of items to be made and the second which asks for a set of items to be made. The former will ask for a certain
quantity of items, the item type, and possibly special requests such as all exceptionally made or made with a certain color of
ingots (or both). The latter deed asks for a set of items to be made and instead of combining items with it you combine matching
deeds with it. An example of a Large Bulk Order Deed would be a deed that asks for 10 each of platemail gorgets, arms, legs,
tunic, helm and gloves. If you received such a bulk order you would need to find the matching deeds for it, which would be a deed
for 10 platemail gorgets, 10 platemail arms, 10 platemail legs, etc. Oh yah, to top it off they need to match every other
requirement also (ingot type, exceptional, or both).
So you've got your deed, you know what type it is and you've determined you can actually
make it (i.e. you have the skill to make the items and you have the ingots needed). Well once you make the items double click on the
deed and click on the button that says "Combine this deed with items requested". This will give you a targeting cursor to select
an item to combine the deed. Do this until your deed is full, the deed will show you how many items you've finished, so don't
worry about over filling the deed.
When you have filled the deed you can take it back to any blacksmith and drop it on them. When the deed is dropped on the NPC
blacksmith you will hear a triumphant bleep from your speakers. Oh, and of course you'll receive your due reward (fame, gold, item).
Bulk Order Deed Rewards:
So you have completed a BOD and you are curious what you'll get! Well here is a list of items you may possibly receive, depending
on the difficulty of the bulk order of course. The rewards are listed from the most common to the most rare.
Sturdy Pickaxe:
This sturdy tool lasts much longer
than its 'not so sturdy' counter part. These have a durability of 180.
Sturdy Shovel:
This sturdy tool lasts much longer than
its 'not so sturdy' counter part (deja vu?). These have a durability of 150 or 200, which is assigned randomly when it is
rewarded to you.
Gloves of Mining
These bad boys come in three different
versions leather, studded leather and ringmail. Respectively they give +1, +3 and +5 to your mining skill when you wear them.
Also its been noted that each one comes in different colors for each shade of ore. The leather and studded leather versions are
dyable. The colors do not seem to give any other bonuses, they just look different.
Gargoyle's Pickaxe
The Gargoyle's Pickaxe allows a miner to gain ore one level higher than would normally be mined in an area. In otherwords, if you mine
a spot and the ore that comes out is Verite, if you use the Gargoyle's Pickaxe to mine the vein, it will upgrade that vein
of ore to Valorite. This tool can be used in combination with the Prospector's Tool, thus allowing you to raise a vein two levels
(i.e. Agapite to Valorite).
Prospector's Tool
The Prospector's Tool allows a miner to gain ore one level higher than would normally be mined in an area. In otherwords, if you mine
a spot and the ore that comes out is Verite, if you use the Prospector's Tool on the area you are mining, it will upgrade that vein
of ore to Valorite. The tool comes with 50 charges and is very useful in helping you get the quantities of a certain ore type faster.
This tool can be used in combination with the Gargoyle's Pickaxe, thus allowing you to raise a vein two levels (i.e. Agapite to Valorite).
Powder of Temperament
This wonderful powder allows you to raise the maximum durability for weapons and armour. Each use of the powder raises the items
max durability by 10 points. So if you had an item that started with 56 durability and used Powder of Temperament on it 10 times the
item would now have a max durability of 156. This is important because as an items wears out it will not work as well. If it was a
weapon you would no longer hit as hard, think of it as the edge getting dull. But if you have a really high max durability it takes longer
for the weapon to wear out, percentage wise, the higher you have durability, the slower the percent goes down, which is good.
PoT is really useful on items such as shields, as they take a lot of damage fast. It's a great to use on weapons also, but would be a waste
on anything that has the attribute "Self Repair". Furthermore, PoT is known to lower the max durability on Artifacts, so do not use the
powder on any of your doom rares.
Colored Anvil
These are just pretty colored anvils, one color for each ore type. They are higher end reward that has no use as far as anyone
can tell but to look prety.
Power Scrolls
Ahh power scrolls. The power scrolls obtained from the blacksmith Bulk Order System are the only ones available to raise the
blacksmith skill cap over 100. As other types of power scrolls they come in +5, +10, +15, and +20 varieties. As all power scrolls,
these only raise the cap on your skill, they do not raise your actual skill, and they do not raise your total skill point cap.
Runic Smithy Hammer
This wonderful hammer allows blacksmiths to create magical weapson. They are based off the different types of ore (dull copper to
valorite). Dull copper hammers make the weakest magical items while valorite make the strongest. Suffice it to say these
are very rare and the more rare an ore type the more rare the hammer of the same color going to be. The rarest of the hammers
(Valorite) is meant to show up rarely on each shard. Each hammer has a maximum amount of charges, starting with 50 for the Dull
Copper hammer, down to 15 for the Valorite Hammer. To make a weapon with a runic hammer, use the hammer, select the type of
ore you want to use with it, and then select the item to make. It's that easy. Depending on the type of hammer you can apply
up to five magical properties to an item. Starting with 1-2 properties with a Dull Copper Runic Hammer to 5 properties with a
Valorite Runic Hammer. Additionally, the intensity of the properties varies. For example, the max Luck an item can have is 100.
With a Shadow Runic Hammer you could apply anywhere from 20-40 luck onto the item. Now, how do the magical properties get chosen for
an item? 100% randomly. The game desides, if you're trying for a certain set of values on an item you may have to use a few charges,
if not all of them, to get exactly what you want, heck you may not even then, but you're like to still have some pretty good items.

Ancient Smithy Hammer
Ancient Smithy Hammers are one of the TOP of the line gifts. There are four known hammer types that give +10, +15, +30 or +60 to
your base blacksmithing skill. Combined with a +20 power scroll for blacksmithy and a +60 ASH you can get 180 skill total and pretty
much making anything with little chance of loosing resouces. Overall those, these are not valued as high as runic hammers.
Frquently Asked Questions:
How often can I get a BOD?
Below 50.1 real skill you can get a BOD every 1 hour, from 50.1 to 70.0 you can get one every 2 hours. 70.1 real skill and up you
can get a BOD every six hours.
How much skill do I need to get a BOD?
Any blacksmith can get a bulk order, but you must have 70.1 real skill or more to get a large bulk order.
What types of BOD's are there?
There are normal bulk order deeds that ask to make an item (perhaps with special requirements, such as ore type and exceptional) and
large bulk order deeds that ask for armour sets (15 full platemail suites).
Can a BOD be stolen?
BOD's are newbied if they are in your main pack.
Where can I get a BOD?
You can get a BOD from any blacksmith NPC by selling items to them. Usually only need to sell anywhere from 1 to 30 items before
you are asked to complete a deed. Its best to just sell plain iron ingots as it uses the least resources.
How are BOD's given? Randomly?
BOD's are given randomly. While only smiths with 70.1 real skill or greater can get large bulk orders its still all random. One
time you may get an order for 10 daggers and the next time you may get a bulk order for 20 valorite exceptional platemail suits
Can I get another BOD if I already have one?
Yes, you can have as many BOD's at one time as you want, plus you can trade them with others. Which is good because you'd have
no chance at completing a large bulk order with out that!
What happens if I decline a BOD request?
If you decline an BOD request you have to wait till your timelimit is up. This keeps people from just saying no and waiting for the
deed they need.
