UO Compendium "Haiku Like I Do Contest" to win a copy of UO: Samurai Empires:

Win UO:SE by writing Haiku!

Contest Ends Oct 31st, 2004, sorry for the confusion.

Do you Haiku like I do? Do you have a way with words, well then this contest is for you! It is simple to win, and you can enter as much as you like. Here is how it works.

The UO Compendium is giving out two (2) copies of UO: Samurai Empires (once it is released of course). You can win them by writing the best Ultima Online based Haiku. Here are the official rules:

1. The haiku must be based on Ultima Online. Either in character or about playing it, that doesn't matter. The haiku must be formed along the following English standards (sorry I can't read kanji).

       a. The haiku must have 3 lines total, no more no less.

       b. The first line must have 5 syllables.

       c. The second line must have 7 syllables.

       d. The third line must have 5 syllables.

       e. The haiku must convey to the reader what season the haiku is for.

       f. Avoid using similes and metaphors.

2. The haiku has to be emailed to orion@gamesentry.com no later than October 31st, 2004. This way I can announce the winners prior to the official release of UO:SE.

3. Have fun and be creative!

4. Enter as many times and as often as you like, however, don't use someone else's work, I will attempt to check this, so don't go and copy a haiku you found on the internet, that's cheating. Use it for inspiration perhaps, but don't just plagiarize someone else's works.

5. All entries must be sent via email, please put down your UO name and shard you play on AS WELL AS your real name.

6. You agree to let me publish the haiku on the UO Compendium (uo.gamesentry.com). Credit will still be given to you using your UO name and the shard you play on. If you don't wish credit to be given please make this known to me.

Those are the rules, enter often, have fun, think about UO! And make sure you get me those entries on or before October 31st!!!

I do reserve the right to modify the rules to the contest, just in case something pops up, I can't see anything happening though.

These are preorder copies of UO:SE. They come with the Soul Stone codes. I am double checking right now that I can just forward the codes, but I'm 99% positive there would be no problems.

Now, as far as conveying what season the haiku is for, I am not saying to say "It's winter", but convey to the reader what season it is in, like mentioning "cherry blossoms" conveys that it is in the Spring, "seeing your breath" conveys it is the winter, or "your parched brow" conveys it is in the summer. I hope that helps.

Finally you can perhaps find some insperation here and here.
